Canal Trust Open weekend

The Friends to attended the Coombeswood Canal trust open day over the weekend of 18th & 19th May 2013.

The event was held at Coombeswood canal basin and we were invited along by our friends at the canal trust.

It was a great fun weekend for all the family, and included boat trips, charity stalls, craft stalls, collectables, canalia and much more. Real Ale, Burgers, Hot dogs, sandwiches.

The event was opened by James Morris MP with a ceremonial cutting of the tape whilst travelling through Burton Bridge and into the basin. There were some wonderful reminders of the Coombeswood heritage on show including this lovingly restored boat formerly a working boat at Coombs Wood Tube works.

Wombles ? Or is it Friends of Coombeswood

Sunday the 17th February 2013 saw an intrepid bunch of volunteers carrying out a litter pick around the wedge.

Most of us turned up expecting to be filling  black bags with bits of paper and soft drinks cans  but we actually came across a whole lot more !  Litterpicks are a great way of helping Coombeswood wedge.  All are welcome on our litterpick events but dont forget, you can make a difference just by picking up any bits of litter you see whilst out walking on the wedge. Every little helps !
